Statutory registration
Registration with the Allied Health Professions Council of
South Africa (AHPCSA) is a statutory requirement and graduates
become eligible for registration only once internship has been
completed successfully. It is therefore a legal requirement
for all practising Homeopathic Practitioners to register with
the AHPCSA. This includes Medical Practitioners, and it is for
this reason that dual registration is allowed for Medical Practitioners
with both the Health Professions Council (HPCSA) and the Allied
Health Professions Council (AHPCSA). The purpose of the AHPCSA
is to ensure that only practitioners with legitimate qualifications
are registered to work as such in South Africa thus protecting
the public against any fraudulent behaviour, or illegal practitioners.
Any unregistered individual practising Homeopathy is committing
a criminal offence and can face legal action leading to imprisonment.
